This is a premium accessory. I love using it with my Wife's Chromatic, so we can trade pokemon. It's a braided cable, and so much better made than the original game boy cable.

I was able to try this link cable and it works great. The link works well with my Chromatic and original gameboy color. I was worried that the systems would not be compatible, but they work together just fine. I tested the systems with original tetris games. It really makes paying these old games fun again with two people head to head. If you need a link cable, I would suggest buying this one.
