Let's face it. Gingerbread house decorating kits can be frustrating, messy, wasteful, and full of questionable ingredients.

A sweet tradition!
What originally led me to the Tomte Cake was that one of my children has life-threatening food allergies. We love decorating gingerbread houses, but finding a safe store-bought one for her was difficult. I thought about making homemade, but that still doesn't fix the problem of how difficult it is to assemble gingerbread houses (and keep them assembled while decorating) when you have small children. With a cake recipe like the one for the Tomte Cake, I can make sure that the cake is safe for her to eat AND it stays in one piece while they decorate! In addition, it tastes much better, and my kids love the story and the tradition of trying to pick a cake that might have a Tomte. Since we need four cakes, we bought two sets so that we can make all the cakes at once and so that my two kids can each have a Tomte. (Highly recommend doing this!) The set is high quality-- even the box is a good, sturdy box that has held up well to three years of Christmas storage. We love it and can't wait for our fourth year of this tradition.

Our new yearly tradition
My son was too excited to wait until Christmas so we did it for back to school celebration. And we all had so much fun we’re going to use it for Halloween houses

Our dog stole the magic!
I ordered the kit so that my 11 year old daughter and I could start a new Christmas tradition to pass on to future grandchildren. Plus, how awesome is it to bake a gingerbread house that you can actually eat? it arrived. it was made of high-quality materials! when we read the story. our young miniature golden doodle, Frankie 🐶 was listening. We baked the cakes with Tomte inside of one. my daughter decorated them and we proudly displayed them. much to our surprise… Frankie 🐶 stole one of the cakes and ate the entire thing! we found out later that he had actually eaten the cake with the gnome and now we have no gnome! we would love to order another gnome, please- because it really is a lovely tradition.
