A review from His Holiness, the Pope of New Avalon, in the year 3145
Aries delivers exemplary service, as always, and receives my sincere gratitude.
This Core Rulebook offers more refinement than sweeping reform, tidying the rules and making play a little smoother. I still shall not be fielding twin LB-X 20s. Even His Holiness must exercise restraint. Nevertheless, these “quality-of-life improvements,” as the young people call them, are most welcome.
I particularly enjoy the weapons rules section, and the index is magnificent. Finding the passage one needs should not require a pilgrimage.
I prefer this volume to a digital device. There is comfort in the weight of a proper book, the turning of its pages, and knowing that its battery will never expire.

The new Battletech Core Rulebook is the culmination of 40 years of gameplay and feedback from veteran players. It incorporates the various new technologies as well as addressing rule changes to improve game play. It is truly long overdue and essential to moving the game forward.

You kinda have to rate it high since it's the main resource for playing the game. The book in general is actually really nice, regardless of if you like the rules updates or not. SO far I like the presentation a lot more than the old mech manual, and the rules are mostly laid out in a way that makes sense, and if you can't find something, the index is super helpful. You would still probably want Total Warfare to supplement it if you intend to use the full vehicle rules instead of the battlefield support system.
